Tour - The Golden Age of French Jewellery: Courses and Visits in Burgundy and Paris
David and Daniela host courses in Burgundy and tours of world famous jewellery ateliers, museums and institutions in Paris
The tour is in two parts – the first, taking place in Burgundy, will comprise three days of informative classes combined with visits to local historic attractions, vineyards and cultural sites. The second, in Paris, features tours of jewellery ateliers, museums and institutions.
Our classes will cover the following topics:
– Cartier – between Belle Époque and Art Deco
– Exotic Influences – Cartier and the Art Deco style: 1920-1940
– Cartier – Great Cats and Glamour: 1940-1960
– Boucheron: A Place in the Sun and Chaumet: Empress, Flappers – Parisian style
Local activities include a visit to the Benedictine Abbey of Cluny, which dates from 910, a tour and tasting at Pouilly-Fuissé, the most distinguished appellation in the Mâconais, and a walk through the glorious Burgundian countryside, close to David’s home, where we discover natural herbs and plants.
Our guests will stay at Château d’Igé, located close to Mâcon and Cluny, this 13th century residence, set in 4 hectares of unspoilt parkland, retains its medieval charms and boasts a world class restaurant serving regional specialities along with an impressive wine cellar.
We will explore celebrated jewellery houses of Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chaumet and Boucheron.
We will have a private tour of the Gallery des Bijoux, within the Museé des Arts Décoratifs, and the recently launched Gabrielle Chanel Rooms at Le Palais Galliera.
Our guests will stay at Hôtel Le Bristol, 112 rue Faubourg Saint Honoré, situated at the heart of the city’s fashion, art and design district. The hotel opened in 1925 and is famed for its historic architecture and luxurious interiors.
Accommodation, meals, refreshments, entry to all attractions in Burgundy and Paris, travel from Burgundy to Paris and local transport in Burgundy and Paris will be included in the total cost.
The tour will accommodate 12 guests.
