Tour - The Golden Age of French Jewellery : Lectures and Visits in Burgundy and Paris - a bespoke tour personally hosted by David and Daniela

Overview

This Masterclass covers the period from the Belle Époque through to the Art Deco era (1880-1930) led by Daniela and David and will be divided between two auspicious locations: Burgundy and Paris.

It will begin in Burgundy with three days of informative lectures alternating with visits to local historic sights, vineyards and celebrated restaurants. This will set the scene and we will continue in Paris with exclusive tours of world famous jewellery houses and museums to evoke the spirit of the Age.

Burgundy
Over the course of our stay we will present six lectures commencing with the late 19th century Garland style of the Belle Époque through to the Art Deco designs of the 1920s and 30s, focusing on the jewels produced by Boucheron, Cartier, Chaumet and Mellerio.

Local activities in Burgundy will include:

● a visit to the world famous Benedictine Abbey of Cluny, once  the largest building in Christendom and dating from 910;

● a visit to Château de Cormatin, a sumptuous Louis XIII 17th century mansion set in magnificent formal gardens and parkland;

● a tour and wine tasting at the renowned Château de Pierreclos whose appellations include Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint-Véran with focus on organic production

● a guided walk through the glorious Burgundian countryside, near David’s home, to discover wild herbs and plants used for centuries in traditional medicine

Our guests will stay at the romantic 13th century Château d’Igé (visit site here) located close to Mâcon and Cluny, which will also be the location for our lectures. The Château retains many of its original features – vaulted ceilings, canopy beds, period fireplaces and ancient beams. The Château also boasts a world-class restaurant under the celebrated three-star Michelin chef, Georges Blanc, as well as an impressive wine cellar which naturally features an enviable selection of Burgundy wines.

Paris
We will be the guests of the celebrated jewellery houses Boucheron, Cartier, Chaumet and Mellerio located in the dazzling jewellery quarter of Place Vendôme and Rue de la Paix.

We will also  visit museums and institutions such as the Galerie des Bijoux, within the Musée des Arts Décoratifs and we will enjoy a private guided tour of the French Crown jewels held in the magnificent Galerie d’Apollon at the Louvre.

Our guests will stay in the heart of the city close to world renowned boulevards and attractions, and will have a choice of selected hotels. As in Burgundy we have also selected excellent restaurants for lunch and dinner each day.

Accommodation and all meals, refreshments, entry to all attractions, travel from Burgundy to Paris and local transport are included in the total cost.
