Australian Broadcast Corporation journalists have written an in-depth article following the shocking break-in at the Louvre which took place on 19 October just a few minutes after the museum had opened its doors to hundreds of Sunday visitors.
ABC spoke to Daniela whilst doing their research for the article, as she had handled many of the jewels stolen in the recent heist before they were offered at auction. The Society of Friends of the Louvre had purchased Empress Eugénie’s pearl and diamond tiara at auction in Geneva in 1992, and very sadly this was one of the jewels seized from its cabinet in the Galerie d’Apollon. Eugénie’s crown of gold, diamonds and emeralds, showing below, was also taken but in the course of making their hasty escape it was dropped by one of the thieves and subsequently damaged.
