A princely pink topaz

A rare pink topaz and diamond brooch, circa 1880, purchased from the sale of Jewels from The Princely Collections of Thurn und Taxis, Sotheby’s Geneva, November 1992, lot 192, and recently re-discovered in a private collection.

About

The stunning pink topaz of exceptional colour, purity and size exhibits a mixed style of cutting typical of the date.

In our opinion this jewel is of German or Austrian manufacture although it does not bear any poinçons. In any case pink topaz was particularly popular in the German and Austrian courts from about 1830 until the end of the century.

This beautiful jewel would be equally appealing to the collector of fine precious gems and to the connoisseur of antique jewels of impeccable provenance.
